ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
One year after opening its doors in Santa Barbara, Seimandi & Leprieur presents YEAR ONE, a group exhibition celebrating its inaugural season and the vision that has guided the gallery since July 2025: presenting outstanding contemporary art while fostering dialogue between local and international artistic communities. Since its opening, the gallery has developed a program bringing together emerging and internationally established artists, building connections between the Santa Barbara art scene and a wider global context. Bringing together artists from our first five exhibitions, YEAR ONE celebrates both continuity and discovery, revisiting works that have shaped our program while unveiling new pieces by many of the artists who have accompanied us since the beginning.
Featured in the exhibition are Conjuring Rain 5 and 6 by acclaimed California artist Mary Heebner, recently returned from three years at the residence of the United States Ambassador in Helsinki, Finland. These works embody the dialogue between local and international perspectives that has shaped the gallery’s curatorial direction from the outset.
The exhibition also includes Smoke & Fire by George Legrady, internationally renowned media artist and distinguished professor in UC Santa Barbara’s Media Arts & Technology program. A pioneer in digital and media art, Legrady contributes a work that reflects his ongoing exploration of perception, technology, and visual culture.
Rather than a retrospective, YEAR ONE proposes a moment of continuity and transition, reflecting on the gallery’s first year while looking ahead to its future. It celebrates the artists, collectors, and audiences who have shaped its early trajectory and reaffirms its commitment to presenting compelling contemporary voices from California and beyond.
