ANOTHER ROOM

Seimandi & Leprieur presents ANOTHER ROOM, its first exhibition dedicated entirely to photography, featuring Los Angeles-based German photographer Michael EB Detto.

ANOTHER ROOM explores Detto’s photographic practice, in which architecture becomes a vessel for abstraction and psychological experience, transforming familiar urban environments into spaces of ambiguity and narrative possibility.

 

At the heart of Detto’s work is an interest in the hidden lives of images and buildings. Moving beyond conventional architectural perspective, he seeks disorienting viewpoints, fragmented structures, and unexpected visual relationships that reveal the emotional and psychological dimensions of space. In works such as his architectural triptychs, urban environments become unstable constructions where memory and personal association intersect.

Language is also central to his practice. Drawing on a long-standing interest in text and image, Detto incorporates short written fragments as poetic gestures that subtly shift perception and establish mood. After studying the humanities, art history, and Romance philology in Germany, Detto developed an interdisciplinary approach to cinema and photography through postgraduate studies at the National Film School in Łódź, Poland. After moving to Los Angeles in 2004, he continued his photographic training at Otis College of Art and Design.

Detto has exhibited internationally in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Recent solo exhibitions include BUILDING at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art (LACDA), Los Angeles; earlier projects include Cambodian Ghostsat Meta House in Phnom Penh and Auf der Jagd nach dem KSM (Hunting the KSM) in Munich.
