Biography

Born 1983, Fort-de-France, Martinique

Lives and works in Martinique

Karine Taïlamé is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist born in Martinique and a graduate of the Fine Arts Schools in France. She creates paintings with a distinctive style that celebrate the beauty of nature and the movement of the Universe. The strength of her work lies in the vibrant energy of her colors and the stylization of harmonious forms, offering a joyful visual symphony.

Her inspiration is deeply rooted in the surrounding nature of the Caribbean, where she recreates a unique sensory atmosphere. Her pictorial language is both subtle and vivid, infused with the light, colors, and scents of her native island.

Since 2019, she has expanded her practice through a material-based approach. That same year, she studied glass fusion (vetrofusione) at the Abate Zanetti School in Murano, Italy, where she refined her appreciation for transparency and color. This experience later led her to explore its opposite — opacity — through the use of precious metals and jewelry design. In 2021, she earned a diploma from the Haute École de Joaillerie in Aix-en-Provence. One year later, she created Divine Reine, a bold and unique piece in 18-carat yellow gold, set with white and black diamonds, pink and green sapphires — a micro-sculpture reinterpreting the “écu” (heraldic shield), updated with a tribute to the queen of flowers — the rose, as a powerful contemporary feminine emblem.

Some of her works, marked by their singular texture, reflect her recent experiments and deep interest in materiality. Her compositions emerge from a long and meticulous process involving multiple layers of rich paint or, conversely, translucent washes, expressing the atmospheric lightness that fascinates her.

Through the finesse of her gesture and the transparency of her touch, she creates large compositions where color fields appear like fleeting impressions captured on canvas or floating motifs drifting in a cosmic vastness. Each piece often takes several months to complete. The surfaces, sometimes compared to the crystalline texture of Filibo — a traditional Caribbean candy — carry a vivid materiality that evokes the sensory memories of her childhood.

The chromatic richness and atmospheric depth of Karine Taïlamé’s paintings make them sought-after works, often acquired by collectors worldwide and selected by interior designers for their sensitive and strong presence — a loyalty that speaks to the strength of her career.

Her curatorial vision is also increasingly recognized. In 2026, she will serve as the lead curator for the group exhibition Intimate Cartographies, which will take place from May 2 to August 1 at the Wall House Museum in Saint Barthélemy.
